University of Minnesota Geology Department

Dom Daninger and Dr. Martin SaarDr Martin Saar, Assistant Professor and Gibson Chair of Hydrogeology & Geofluids, uses the embarrassingly parallel functionality of the cluster and his modeling needs to speed up this simulation work so that he can get back eight simulation runs overnight instead of waiting eight days to run simulations one at a time on a desktop PC.

Martin also is using the centralized storage capability of the cluster to assist in the secure storage of his modeling data which is important because output data is the main output of his work. The Beowulf cluster lets Martin hand out simulation tasks to the compute nodes and gather the compute node results back for compilation into data tables or graphs.
