Nor-Tech innovates smartly designed, scalable clusters with an affordable price point and no software licensing fees.

MINNEAPOLIS (PRWEB) July 20, 2016

Nor-Tech (Northern Computer Technologies) just brought HPC clusters within the reach of most scientific and research organizations. The smartly designed, scalable clusters are the first HPC devices with an affordable price point and no software licensing fees.

Nor-Tech President and CEO David Bollig said, “We saw a disconnect in the industry between rapidly growing organizations that could really benefit from HPC clusters and the solutions that were on the market. Our goal was to develop a powerful, scalable cluster that was in itself affordable, but also didn’t require hefty, recurring software licensing fees.”

Nor-Tech’s entry level clusters are quiet, run on standard power, and have wheels–so they can be used in an office, classroom, laboratory, etc. They are also bundled with OpenFOAM open source software (which eliminates steep licensing fees) plus 25 hours of software support.

OpenFOAM is time-tested CFD software developed primarily by ESI’s OpenCFD Ltd. It was created in the 1980s, first released in 2004, and has a large user base across most areas of engineering and science–both commercial and academic organizations.
OpenFOAM includes a full array of tools that solve anything from complex fluid flows involving chemical reactions, turbulence, and heat transfer to acoustics, solid mechanics, and electromagnetics. The utility is independently tested by ESI-OpenCFD and supported by ESI’s worldwide infrastructure. Advantages include:

No license fees
Friendly syntax for partial differential equations
Unstructured polyhedral grid capabilities
Automatic parallelization of applications written using OpenFOAM high-level syntax
Wide range of applications and models ready to use
Professional support, development and training from OpenFOAM’s originators

In addition to OpenFOAM, Nor-Tech’s entry level clusters are integrated with ParaView, which is an open-source, multi-platform data analysis and visualization application that was first released in 2002. ParaView was developed to analyze extremely large datasets using distributed memory computing resources. It can be run on supercomputers to analyze petascale data as well as on laptops for smaller datasets.

ParaView users can quickly build visualizations to analyze their data using qualitative and quantitative techniques. The data exploration can be done interactively in 3D or programmatically using ParaView’s batch processing capabilities.

Nor-Tech is renowned throughout the scientific and academic communities for easy to deploy turnkey clusters and expert, no wait time support. All of the company’s technology, including their entry-level clusters are made by Nor-Tech in Minnesota and supported by Nor-Tech around the world.

Nor-Tech built its reputation on the industry’s easiest-to-deploy cluster solutions and guaranteed no wait time support. The company designed and built the HPC cluster that enabled the first detection of a gravitational wave—a discovery destined to change history. In addition to HPC clusters, Nor-Tech’s custom technology includes workstations, desktops, and servers for a range of applications including CAE, CFD, and FEA. Clients include some of the most respected organizations in the world. Nor-Tech engineers average 20+ years of experience and are responsible for significant high performance computing innovations. The company has been in business since 1998 and is headquartered in Burnsville, Minn. just outside of Minneapolis.
